How the Consulting Relationship Begins

Many times we begin, not with a proposal, but with a visit. We meet you, tour your site, listen to your story, and learn about your challenge. We talk over how we might be helpful – or tell you if we think we cannot. Then we return to the office and frame a proposal – one based on firsthand knowledge of your situation.

Throughout the Relationship

We advise, facilitate, listen, and reshape our process to meet your needs. We guide, but we know we cannot tell you what to do. Sometimes, though, we “lie down in the road” to prevent you from taking a fatal step. We seek your feedback on our services and we work to accommodate your special requirements.

And at the Close of the Project

We assess our outcomes, make sure there is a clear process to monitor and stabilize success, and potentially agree to come back to help with “mid-course corrections.” When we leave, we are always saying good-bye to dear friends and colleagues.

Consulting services often extend to custom training:

Leadership Team Building

By bringing senior managers together to understand their common goals and appreciate one another's contributions, we are able to help strengthen the performance and efficiency of entire organizations. Sometimes these are teams in trouble; sometimes they are newly forming teams. Frequently they are multi-functional. Occasionally they are multi-national. We customize each effort through careful preparation, including contact with each team member. We further collaborate to form a meaningful agenda.

We typically maintain on-going relationships with these teams, providing continual facilitation and individual coaching to further ensure long-term success.

Coaching

One-on-one coaching support for managers provides a source of feedback as well as a sounding board to test new ideas and behaviors. We do this through individual on-site consultation as well as over-the-phone contact. It works especially well in conjunction with Executive Team Building.

Custom Workshops (here are some samples):

Building Skills for the 21st Century - A how-to program on team leadership which specifically addresses the statistically weaker competencies of Coaching, Facilitation, and Delegation. This program is customized to the client needs. We incorporate examples and issues from your site and shape objectives to best match our training with your expectations of team leaders.

Coaching Skills for Managers & Mentors - Gain skills, diagnose the needs of your "coachees", and leave prepared to successfully influence the development of others. This highly interactive program offers both training and individual consultation to the small participant-per-instructor group. Customization to your site needs is a given in our planning for this, as it is for all in-house programs.

Educational Series in Team Management - Prepare first-level managers with skills for success. New managers are often unprepared and dissatisfied in their new roles. However, with training in necessary skills, they can become more interested and more invested in their roles as current or future team managers.

The modules in such an Educational Series might include:

bullet

Team Manager Role and Responsibilities: Building a strong foundation through understanding of the team process and leader's role

bullet

Delegation Skills: Learning the art and process of transferring responsibilities

bullet

Coaching Skills: Learning how to empower employees and motivate them to optimal performance

bullet

Facilitation Skills: Improving the quality and effectiveness of group interaction / meetings

bullet

Conflict Resolution Skills: Learning the skills and strategies for managing volatile situations

Team Building (here are some samples):

Few people question the value of operating in a team-based environment. However, the process of how to develop healthy, effective, productive, and profitable business-focused work teams is debated around the globe. Our programs have been used internationally in organizations which have acknowledged the importance and rewards of continuing to build and support their teams.

Basic Training for Teams.  This program addresses the "Why's," goals, ground rules, and common pitfalls of a team-based organization. Team members understand the new purpose of meetings, learn techniques of problem-solving and decision-making, and discuss performance management. They leave with critical basic skills to launch their team and with the energy and motivation to "stick with it" over the team's inevitable ups and downs.

bullet

Team Revitalization & Renewal. This program revitalizes and recharges the team in the midst of ongoing change. Old skills are reinforced and new skills are added. Current team problems are surfaced, discussed, and resolved in this facilitated, dynamic program. Participants leave refreshed and enthused — ready to press forward to higher levels of performance.
