TMDC Critical Leadership Competencies
Program Objectives · To learn the expectations and standards for the role of the "Team Manager". · To participate in simulation-based learning activities such as group meetings, one-on-one interactions, in-basket assignments, interruptions, and role playing. · To personally reflect and analyze own strengths and areas for development with the facilitation of a personal coach. · To receive objective, third-party feedback of leadership abilities based on 12 Competencies. · To create individual development plans focusing on strengths and areas needing development and tied to back-home work requirements. · To receive a written feedback report, a "Tips and Techniques" booklet, and a personal video for review. · To participate in a follow-up conference with participant, manager & TMDC coach.
TMDC Format The intensive 3-day program includes two days in a full simulation of a fictitious, but realistic organization. Six participants function as Team Managers within that setting and are given extensive information about the business, its product, the layout, technology, organization, pay system and job structuring. Participants proceed through a series of planned and unexpected events such as: · Balancing administrative tasks with on-line crises or interruptions · Participating in and leading meetings · Preparing and delivering performance feedback · Coping with challenges of "real" team members · Analyzing and reflecting on own performance as team manager The second and third days begin with individualized feedback and coaching on participants' performance on the previous day. Participants also reflect on their own performance and this self-assessment is incorporated into the discussion with the coach. On the third day, the TMDC
coaches guide each participant in writing an individual and specific Plan of
Development based on the areas identified during the Center as needing
development. A written Leadership Profile and Plan of Development is prepared
and mailed to the participant within a week following conclusion of the program.
Then, several weeks later, a follow-up session is held among the participant,
his or her manager, and the TMDC Coach.
